    4d-Micro-USB #16141
4d-Micro-USB  Prices | Support

9-September-2010
There will be no more stock of this item.

We have had an order for this product, in with 4dsystems since March-2010, and unfortunately they now tell us in September-2010, that this product is End Of Life. What can I say!

The possible alternatives we have can be seen at:
http://www.dontronics-shop.com/picaxe-ftdi-program.html

We try and keep stock of the FTDI items at all times.
We also try to keep the products from Droids (Xbee boards) in stock, however they can experience manufacturing delay problems at times.
We only order from Sparkfun at 3 to 6 months intervals, so these could easily run out.

Please send us an email if you have any questions.

Cheers Don...

All Micro-USB modules are shipped with CP2102 chips fitted.
See Also 4D Systems USB-5V Kit.  Can be used to add Micro-USB to many other projects.

Micro-USB Module. USB bus to micro adapter.

Micro-USB-Module
CP2102

Adding USB to your favorite micro is as simple as adding 8 pins to your target board on a .1" grid.

Read this review by Jonathan Oxer

Note **** These pins are standard size .025" (wire wrap type) pins that will fit into a breadboard or .025" socket header.
The Micro-USB is based on Silicon Laboratories CP2101-CP2102 I.C.'s, and has the world's smallest footprint for this type of device.

Micro-USB uses a standard USB B connector (same as all of the other modules that Dontronics sells) to connect to your PC using a standard AM to BM cable, and an 8 pin footprint at .1" centers on your target board, to allow simple connect to your breadboard or Micro board. The CP2102 chip has a UART,  and on-board EEPROM built right it.

See Features.

Dimensions are as follows:
Pin1 = origin
Pin1 to Pin2 = 2.54mm or 0.1"
Pin2 to Pin3 = 2.54mm or 0.1"
Pin3 to Pin4 = 2.54mm or 0.1"
Pin4 to Pin5 = 10.16mm or 0.4"
Pin5 to Pin6 = 2.54mm or 0.1"
Pin6 to Pin7 = 7.62mm or 0.3"
Pin7 to Pin8 = 2.54mm or 0.1"

Most USB to Micro connections will require only Ground, RX, and TX, a 3 wire circuit. The Micro-USB ignores all of the Modem handshaking lines that are available from the CP210x chip.

microUSB Pin Descriptions:

Pin1 - Tx Data :
This is the transmitted data output from the microUSB. Connect this pin to the Receive Data Input (Rx) of your target microcontroller.

Pin2 - Rx Data :
This is the receive data input to the microUSB. Connect this pin to the Transmit Data Output (Tx) of your target microcontroller.

Pin3 - Suspend :
This pin becomes high (Logic '1') when the microUSB enters the 'USB Suspend State'. For most applications this pin can be left unconnected.

Pin4 - *Suspend :
This pin becomes low (Logic '0') when the microUSB enters the 'USB Suspend State'. For most applications this pin can be left unconnected.

Pin5 - *Reset :
When this pin is driven active low from an external device for more than 15us the microUSB module is RESET. For most applications this pin can be left unconnected.

Pin6 - +5V :
This pin supplies 5V to external devices from the USB bus. If this pin is used please connect a 4.7uf to 10uf capacitor from this pin to GND.

Pin7 - +3.3V :
This pin supplies a regulated 3.3V to external devices. Maximum of 100mA output current is available. If this pin is used please connect a 22uf capacitor from this pin to GND.

Pin8 - GND :
Ground.

CP2102  Features:

The CP2102 is a single-chip USB to UART bridge that converts data traffic between USB and UART formats.

The chip includes a complete USB 2.0 full-speed function controller, bridge control logic and a UART interface with transmit/receive buffers and modem handshake signals. The device also features on-board EEPROM, a voltage regulator, a USB transceiver and an integrated internal oscillator, eliminating external components generally required in USB applications. System development is further simplified by the Evaluation Kits, which include a complete USB to RS232 evaluation board and royalty-free device drivers for PC, (Windows 98SE/2000/XP), Macintosh and Linux platforms.

26-Apr-2006 Feedback to a customer having problems with a GPS system:
Please ask John the following:
What's the current consumption of the GPS? If it's more than 100mA he will need to use this utility
http://www.dontronics.com/zip/microUSB%20CP210xSetIDs.zip
Is the GPS a standard serial interface, i.e. normal RS232 voltage levels?
The Rx/Tx signal levels from the micro-USB are 0 to 3.3V levels.
He can try this as a quick test to see that the uUSB is working.
Attach the anode of a LED to +3.3V - pin7 then the cathode of the led via a 1K resistor to the Tx - pin1. Set the baud rate to say 300 or 600 baud and use Hyperterminal or DockLight type of a serial terminal program to send any character. Everytime a character is sent the LED should light up briefly.
I think his problem is the GPS works on 5Volts and expects the Rx/Tx signal levels to be at 0 to 5V and the uUSB signals are at 3.3Volts.
He may need to insert 1K resistors in series between the GPS and the uUSB.
He may wish to send me the data specs of the GPS and I can have a look and see.
Regards, Atilla
