EEE PC Sub-Notebook Information:

Asus Moves 350,000 Eee PCs, Best Buy Launch Next Year:

Still burning up the charts at Amazon (currently no. 2 in computers, with a month-long leadtime) and other retailers six weeks into its US launch, we doubt anyone's jolted awake by the news Asus's Eee PC has moved over 350,000 units, 50k more than expected by the end of this year.

Asus Eee PC on a Plane to Japan With 16GB and Possibly Windows:

Asus Japan has announced that their beloved little lappie, the Eee PC, is heading to Japan. Normally we don't care too much about one of our toys touching down over there, but they're also getting a new 16G(B) model, whereas our rainbow of options ends at 8G. Also, it's rumored they're getting Windows XP as a pre-install option.

EEE Dial-Up Modems:

Both the 4G and 8G models have a port for an external phone line, but don't contain an internal modem card or modem cable.
The RJ-11 phone jack had been plugged up with a rubber stopper to prevent dirt getting into the case.

A suitable external USB dial-up modem:
I was able to source a suitable very small footprint modem from:
http://www.itsupacentre.com.au/swannsmart-external-modem-p-1889.html
This will run under XP and XP PRO, however it appears that Linux drivers aren't available.

External USB DVD R/W drive:

Best spot I could find to buy one of these was:
External USB DVD±RW DVDRW CD R/RW Drive Burner Writer. $69.97AUD, postage $25.98AUD
URL keeps shifting in Ebay shop, but shop is at:
http://stores.ebay.com.au/AsianNetStore_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfclZ3QQfsubZ0QQftidZ2QQtZkm
Ebay seller Hong Kong. great little unit. Two USB plugs for power and Data. I grabbed an iPOD 1Amp AC to USB power adapter from JB HiFi to power it, as I feel it is a big strain on the EEE.
Nice little footprint, good Ebay seller.

Transcend 8Gig Card:

Transcend TS8GSDHC6
Impossible to get in Australia at the moment.
Transcend 8GB SD SDHC High Speed Class 6 8G for EeePC
Again the shop URL for the item keeps changing, but the shop is at:
http://search.ebay.com.au/_W0QQsassZpcnightmarket_com
Also from Hong Kong. Price $74.99AUD, postage $10.99AUD. Will post two for the same postage rate.

ADATA SDHC 2.0 8GB
Transcend TS4GSDHC6
Transcend TS8GSDHC6
Toshiba M04GR4W 4G

are the ones that are known to be compatible

EEE PC 8G:

If you want a black, pink, or 8G, then try this Ebay dealer in Taiwan:
http://stores.ebay.com/asources-apple-computer
or a special Christmas price:
http://www.asources.com/eeepc/christmaseee.htm
I got two 8G's from him. He wraps them as a gift.
