DOS
Command Line Tool.
PICDIS-LITE
DISASSEMBLER
Joe's
Cat PICDIS-LITE is a command line tool capable of reading several different
HEX file formats. PICDIS-LITE's default output is Microchip PIC disassembler
listings or data syntax ([-peeprom8] or [-peeprom16]).
Benefits
of PICDIS-LITE:
PICDIS-LITE
is useful if your Toolkit or compiler does not include a PIC disassembler
or if you simply prefer command-line tools.
Recovery
of code where compiler tools or processor(s) are obsolete or no longer
available. Instead of going through the trouble of re-installing your programming
tools, PICDIS-LITE is self contained and may probably recover what you
are looking for quicker.
You
can read and merge several HEX format file types (example Intel, Motorola).
You
can import HEX format file types which may be of odd start locations or
long lengths which can cause problems for some chip programmers, file editors
or readers.
PICDIS-LITE
is free, limited to 2048 words and no HEX tool processing options.
Professional
Developers may wish to review PICDIS-LITE first before deciding to Buy
PICDIS.
DOS,
Linux, Windows
PICDIS
is a HEX tool and has all the features of PICDIS-LITE plus more:
HEX
file range and Command options available
HEX
file manipulation tools (these can be used on more than PIC processors).
Convert
HEX files to data files or HEX files of another format.
Use
editors made for one HEX format and use programming tools made for a different
HEX format.
Import
and translate difficult to read HEX files, such as odd start locations
or long lengths and resave in an easy to use format. PICDIS saves as 16
byte per line.
Manipulate
HEX files byte-wise for Big or Little-endian word conversion.
Manipulate
HEX files bit-wise so you do not have to cross traces on your printed circuit
boards (elegant as well as valuable for ROMs, PROMs, RAM of byte or word
formats).
Merge
HEX files of different formats into one HEX file of one format.
Merge
Specific information (example: serial numbers) to your HEX files without
having to recompile your code each time or obfuscate your code with a background
random pattern.
Other
Chips And Higher Revs Not Listed By PICDIS -P
PICDIS
-P shows a base list of recognized processors to keep the displayed list
short.
Even
though the chip you are interested in may not be listed when you type PICDIS
-P, it may still be recognized as well.
For
example, 12C508 is listed when you type PICDIS -P but PICDIS will also
display the correct registers for 12C508A (and possibly other future revisions)
since they are based on the same register set. Similarly, on the same topic,
PICDIS will also display register sets for higher revision chips correctly,
for example, the 17C42A has extra registers relative to the 17C42, so if
you have a 17C42A or 17C42B... versus the 17C42 shown on the list, you
should use PICDIS -p17C42A or PICDIS -p17C42B etc... to display the correct
register set. PICDIS will accept entries such as PICDIS -p17C42X, PICDIS
-p17LCR42Y even though Microchip does not produce such chips, so it will
display the latest known revision instead, which is 17C42A in this example,
and it will verify that the hex file fits within the boundaries of a 17C42A.
If
you are searching for chips shown below, you may specify them as PICDIS
-p???? even though they do not display when you type PICDIS -P

License
Agreement For PICDIS
After
Purchasing PICDIS, you are allowed one licensed copy of PICDIS per office.
You may install PICDIS on multiple computers within your office and you
may make a backup of PICDIS for archiving.
To
keep this license simple, an office is a location or building where you
or users would be able to access one paper copy of the PICDIS manual while
using PICDIS. If you cannot access the designated location where you would
place this one paper manual which counts as one license due to locked rooms
(time of day), separate buildings, separate work sites or separate work
groups, then your business is large enough to afford more than one license.
You
agree not to modify, copy or distribute PICDIS or the PICDIS manual beyond
your office, but if you wish to let other users know of PICDIS, please
send them PICDIS-LITE and let them decide for themselves if they wish to
buy PICDIS.
