Using SimmSticks again
Username: bluehairbob
Message: via Dontronics Message Board 5-Aug-2008

I see that there has been no activity on this board for a long time. Perhaps that is how it should be - perhaps no one should use SimmSticks anymore - but I don't think so!

I am a software engineer and recently had a problem that I thought my old SimmSticks would be perfect for. So, i pulled them out of the garage and took them to work and started up again. Within a few hours i had a solution using entirely off-the-shelf SimmSticks and a PIC16F84 at 4 MHz. Now that i have the prototype done, the company will layout a board and build at least 50 of them. SimmSticks rock!

Being as I can't seem to do anything without writing something about it, I have a new website at www.bigbluesparx.com where i am updating anyinformation I come with.

It isn't like i am trying to breathe life back into SimmStick development, but I like them! And, now, what if i replace that old F84 with an 16F88? 4x the program space and ability to run a bootloader? We will see what happens.

Is anybody else still using SimmSticks?

Here is a URL to the page where I show more details and pictures.
It works great!  I just wish I actually had a programmer that would do I2C eeproms as well.  That may be my next project.

SimmStick - Ten Years On.

It was 1996 when we designed and sold our first SimmStick. The prices have remained the same for all these years, but there have been some some recent changes. On many products, the prices have dropped dramatically.

Why? Parallel and Serial port programmers, and interfaces are fast becoming dinosaurs. Everything is going USB. Even our own range of products reflect this.

As such, we have decided to offer a 50% discount on all current SimmStick motherboards until sold out.
We may extend this offer to other selected SimmSticks.

We offer our dealers the same price, 50% off until sold out. Please contact us for ordering information.

DT0xx Kits with parts:
(Not available to dealers)

We do have a limited numbers of DT motherboards with kits of parts included:
DT001
DT003
DT004
DT006
These are all 50% off until sold out.

Sales of micro target boards such as the PIC DT101, DT106, and AVR DT104, and DT107, are still selling reasonably well, and we will continue to support these at the current prices.

Cheap SimmStick motherboards What can we use them for?

Any project that needs the following:

  1. Parallel port.
  2. Serial port.
  3. Motherboard for SimmSticks.
  4. Power supply.
  5. Any combination of the above with interfacing to popular PIC and AVR Micros.
The Future:

We have thousands of Simm Sockets in stock, which will allow us to support customers for a few years to come. Male and female headers will always be available, so these can be used as an alternative to the Simm Sockets.

We don't look like moving to Lead free SimmStick PCB's at this stage, but this will be under review, as we still have thousands of boards in stock. If we run out of stock on boards that are selling well, me may get them manufactured lead free.
