SPLat
Controls System Overview
SPLat
is an Australian developed family of controller products aimed at the serious
user who needs to get results quickly and reliably. The primary application
area is in controlling small machines that require timing, sequencing and
similar control logic. SPLat is being used in a considerable number of
volume manufactured products, mainly in Australia and the US.
SPLat
is designed to be extremely easy to use. It features a proprietary language
that has been optimised for controller applications, and SPLat provide
a huge selection of training materials. A non-programmer can have a simple
program going in 2-4 hours after opening the box. All SPLat products have
real- world input and output circuits for interfacing to solenoid valves,
industrial sensors etc.
SPLat
features a very simple programming system called FastTrack. FastTrack is
a 14 instruction sub-set of the full repertoire of over 400 instructions.
With FastTrack you can program simple machine sequences very easily.
Have
you ever tried writing a program to control a small machine, maybe a robot,
and been totally defeated by the problems of making the program do several
things at once? All SPLat controllers come with a built in multitasking
system called MultiTrack. With MultiTrack you can have up to 32 separate
programs running at once. To use MultiTrack you need to learn just five
more instructions on top of FastTrack. That means with a repertoire of
less than 20 instructions you will be programming sophisticated multitasking
machine controls with sequencers, timing and interlocks.
And
the other 400 instructions? Once you throw away the trainer wheels you
have:
-
floating
point arithmetic for sophisticated calculations,
-
lookup
tables for scale conversions,
-
an extensive
set of display commands for the LCD (where fitted),
-
timing
calculations,
-
simple
and quadrature counting,
-
non-volatile
memory
and much,
much more. With SPLat you can do PID control, mobile phone-like menus,
heuristic algorithms, sensor linearisation and whatever your imagination
can come up with.
The
SPLat language produces extremely compact "byte code" (like Java does).
In a typical control task SPLat code takes about one ninth the space of
a competitor's multitasking C. SPLat controllers have about 25K of user
program space and 250 bytes of RAM free and clear for program variables.
